Day 5, South Shore

On our 5th day, we ventured down to the south shore. It was supposed to be the other touristy part of the island. Our first stop was Spouting Horn, which we wished we were more impressed by, but growing Oregon girls meant we had seen lots of these before.

Moving on, we decided to try snorkeling again, since the south shores were supposed to have great snorkel spots. But the current was strong, my gear sucked, and it was dang hot with no shade. So we gave it up and decided that we just aren't beach/snorkel people. Instead we headed to the National Botanical Garden. Katie had read it was pretty cool, and I really wanted to go because they filmed shots from Jurassic Park here (my all time favorite movie as a kid).

You can't go to the garden I wanted so see unless you go on a guided tour, which was rather spendy, but the scenery made up for it. Lots of exotic plants and fruit trees, flowers, and birds of paradise. The bonus was that this particular garden was largely created by gay couple. Leave it to the gays! ;)

The highlight of the trip for me was seeing the trees from Jurassic Park. These were the same trees where Dr. Grant found the dinosaur eggs in the first film. What I didn't know, was that they also shot the scene where Lex got sneezed on by the brachiopod and where the T-Rex flung the car into the tree! Pretty cool! Katie told me to act like a Raptor at the base of the trees....so I did. RAAARR!!!

After the Botanical Garden we decided to head over to Shipwreck Beach and to do a little stroll along the limestone cliffs there.

We were to hot, sweaty and exhausted to do much else except take a short walk, but it was a gorgeous walk needless to say. The south shore proved to be alot more rugged and hot then the other parts of the island.

We rounded out our final evening in Kauai at the bar Trees which was in our hotel complex at the Coconut Marketplace. The dinner and drinks were FANTASTIC and the music was great. We were a little bummed we did not discover that place earlier, though also glad, cuz we would have spent alot more money if we had!!
