On the fourth day we headed back up the north shore to hike the famous Kalaulau Trail. Its a gorgeous 4-5 mile round trip hike along the Na Pali coast.
The view along the trail was totally amazing. Lots of gorgeous overlooks of the Na Pa
li coast and Ke'e beach where we started.
The Na Pali coast is totally inaccessible except by air or water. We saw a kayaker battling the waves below, which were pretty rough. I guess summer is supposed to be safer, regardless, we decided that was not a trip we wanted to take....this hike was
more our style.
The trail was fairly rugged and steep. Lots of mud, ants and stream crossings, but definitely worth the effort for the views along the way. The added bonus was that we finally felt like we were burning off some of those calories we consumed from all the eating out!! :)
The last few steps before the end of the trail was a creek that we had to cross. The creek went another 2.5 miles up to a waterfall you could swim in, but after our long tedious hike, we just wanted to relax on the beach rather than hike another 5 miles, then hike all the way back to the trailhead.
At the very end of the trail, we were rewarded with a great beach, a beach we sadly could not swim in to wash the sweat and mud off of ourselves cuz the surf and current were to strong.
