Nearby Hotels

For those out of town guests looking for places to stay, I've put together a list of decent hotels that are either located at the aiport or downtown. There is some reasoning for both for you to consider:

Staying at the airport is cheaper and easy to get to when you arrive. There is a new retail center that has several stores like Target, IKEA, Best Buy, Home Goods, etc., as well as restaurants like Red Robin, Quiznos, sushi, etc. You can get to the shops and downtown via the Max (Portland's light rail system). The Max leaves directly from the airport and goes directly downtown, though it takes about an hour. You can then either walk, or hop on the Portland streetcar to get to our wedding venue. It would be about a 15-20 min. commute either way you choose. (I can give you details about getting around for those of you who decide to do that, just let me know). One drawback to staying way out there; however, is that the event ends at 11pm, so that means you'd have to get to the Max station and wait to catch the next train going to the airport, then walk back to your hotel. The whole commute of getting back may take you up to 2 hours if you miss the trains. Also, if you want to take a Taxi, keep in mind that in Portland you will have to call a company...they don't drive the streets regularly for you to hail down.

Staying downtown: You can take the Max directly to and from the aiport to downtown and you'd be an easy walk to the venue. You wouldn't have the worry about catching the train back to the airport after the event, BUT, its a bit more expensive than staying at the aiport. Downtown is clean, safe and walkable (not too hilly either).
