We met up there with Jessica K. and Maya, Jessica N. and Arlie, along with Dixie (Jess K's dog) and Roxie (Arlie's dog). As
the token "couple" we were lucky enough to get the upstairs master room with jacuzzi tub. Sadly though we never got a chance to use it. Friday evening was spent
catching up with friends and having a good time. Saturday we all ventured down
to the Cheese Caves, a lava tube for Mt. Adams. I got a kick out of "teaching" people about the local geology of lava tubes....mainly just Maya who is 6 years old, though the rest indulged me. It was an open cave with a simple rope ladder.
Amazing anyone ever knew it was there at all! Apparently locals used to store their cheese in the caves due to its cold temperature. And that was proven by the basement stairs to an occupied house that we can across while
house.
Afterward it was lunch time and we headed back to the house to eat some lunch before heading over to explore the Trout Lake area. We were totally eaten alive by giant mosquitos, but the weather was gorgeous and we had fun playing teather ball and on the swings at the campground park.
Saturday night Arlie made us all a great meal of fish chowder with shrimp and mussels as appetizers (I even at a mussel...totally freaked me out but I ate it nonetheless!). Afterward Katie built us a fire, with the help of Maya's wood gathering skills, and then we all ventured outside for a great evening over the fire, telling stories and roasting Peep S'Mores. Sadly the second round of Peep S'Mores were not nearly as good as they were in the Redwoods. Arlie even built a fire in the Sauna so we could all enjoy that as well. Though by that point in the evening most of us were so tired, it wasn't a long time spent in there before we crashed out.
Sunday was more low-key with alot of napping and packing up. We had one last adventure over to see some lava "bridges", tubes that had collapsed, and a good time making plans to come back and pick Huckleberries when the time was right.
All and all it was a great weekend with great friends and great food (minus the overindulgence of junk food from which we were all detoxing and swearing never to do again!).
