March Camping

Charlotte and I have started a crazy tradition where we go camping every March. Our first camping trip together was a spring break trip to the Redwoods. The following year we head closer to home and went to Silver Creek Falls. This year we realized we only had one open weekend in March and quickly planned a trip to Beckon Rock. We headed up their after work on Friday. We followed the directions from the state website which ended up taking 2 hours for a normal 45 minute drive!! Then we get to the campsite and despite the website stating they would be open. . . they were closed. NO longer a fan of that website. At this point it was dark and raining. We gave up and headed home for the night.

The next day we decided tradition must be keep and we headed to Ainsworth National Park. It was a decent campground and it was open. It was just a one night camping trip but it was enough as it was COLD!

Our campsite was pretty nice (you could hear the train all night) but the hiking trails around the campsite were pretty. Deiab managed to have fun and even knocked down the trailhead sign. It was being held up by a stick that Deiab decided to take with him and down went the sign. The little man is always up to something!

Good thing he is cute and let us do all kinds of things we we are stuck in the tent during a rain and hail storm. It only lasted about a half hour but we managed to have fun stuck in the tent with De.

That night we managed to get a fire started to make Peep Smores. The are the best kind of smores and can only be had during spring camping. Last year we tried buying enough Peeps to make smores all summer but they get stale really fast and stale Peep smores are not that good.

The next morning Deiab climbed out the tent with his blanket on to eat breakfast. I don't think he was impressed with March camping. At that point we were cold and it was raining again. We called it quits and packed up the car and head home. We took the scenic route on the old highway. It was beautiful scenery and a warm ending to our camping trip.

Now the question is do we dare take Molly camping next year in March or let this year be the last year of the March camping trip? I guess only time will tell. :)
